Internationalization Holds Big Growth Potential for E-business
Only 1 in 20 people in the world speaks English natively. It is amazing the barrier that language adds to communication. We can use all of our other senses, but nothing expresses what we feel as having a conversation in our native language. Gestures can be helpful. A limited vocabulary in a foreign language can go far. However, without a full native language communication, we feel that the message is being lost.
This is hard for English speakers to grasp, as a large portion of the media is prepared specially for us. However, some statistics can shed some light. According to a recent article, a user is 70% more likely to stick around if the content is in a local language. This user is 40% more likely to make a purchase if the content has been localized.
This presents big growth opportunities for e-business companies. New users are coming to the web every day. If they are able search and browse content as the result of internationalization, profits will follow.
