SPOTLIGHT INDIA: Brainpower is India's Most Potent Weapon
India's progress into high-value outsourced services proves the country's
tremendous pool of knowledge workers.
According to a Businessweek article, there are now 150,000 IT engineers in
Bangalore versus 120,000 in Silicon valley.
India never runs out of brainpower considering Indian schools produce
about 260,000 engineering graduates every year - more than enough supply
to the entire Western world's outsourcing needs.
This brainpower is harnessed by giant firms like GE and Microsoft in
augmenting their R&D work in the US. By hiring engineers India, these
companies are able to put more brains to work on their future products.
China has grown its economy due to its vast amounts of cheap labor which
makes it a manufacturing back-end for US companies.
But as we progress into the Information Age, India's brainpower will be in
demand more than ever.
