Disney to offshore IT work

Walt Disney Co’s IT unit is preparing itself for a workforce shift. Amidst promises of a low layoff rate, around 1,000 IT workers will have their jobs outsourced. Services provided by the IT unit include desktop computer support and network management.

The offshore move is expected to affect a third of the division’s overall workforce with the workers moved to different projects with two vendors by mid-July: International Business Machines Corp. and Affiliated Computer Services Inc. Others not included in the deal would be offered jobs in other sections of Disney, while others would be laid off.
