Pharma to outsource from India

US-based Cambrex Pharma & BioPharmaceuticals has lined up India as source for its active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) and intermediates, and is eyeing it as well for future business prospects.

Despite remote possibilities of establishing a Cambrex facility in India, plans are underway to forge ties with other pharmaceutical companies in the country. A sales office is already in operation to identify potential customers there and in India as well. Cambrex aims to shift production orders from the USA and Europe to India. The executive VP himself of Cambrex Pharma & BioPharmaceuticals has expressed confidence in the quality and both product and delivery times, since they have been buying raw material from India for quite some time already.

Edward R. Robinson also goes further and says,

"For the future, we are definite about our Indian presence. It would not be limited to APIs but will include research services as we have been outsourcing R&D for our Eastern Europe locations. This is partly because of cost and partly due to specialized research capabilities that India offers . . . We are positive about our entry into India and will take the time to invest and build in a relationship with partners on a long-term basis.''
