Africa gearing to be next BPO hub
With India, China, the Philippines and the like visibly enjoying the outsourcing wave, Africa sets about to follow suit and jump into the competition to be the next BPO hub. It aims to attract clients with the promotion of low-cost labor and fostering conditions for a build-up of IT infrastructure.
East Africa has ventured forth with the first move during the last quarter with the launch of KenCall EPZ, Kenya’s first international call center. Mauritius is following closely with the ongoing construction of a second cyber tower in Ebene and another cyber park in Rosa Belle.
BPO activity, and BPO-preparation activities are currently concentrated in the southern and northern regions Africa – with other countries throughout the continent also in the midst of BPO-building.
South Africa comprises Africa’s main BPO center offering call center services and back office operations. Up North, Egypt leads with its capability to render all aspects of BPO. Morocco is focused on call centers. Tunisia has been lagging though, showing the least amount of BPO activity in North Africa.
