EU companies show interest in RP IT services

The Philippine business delegation to Europe was met warmly by the companies interested in outsourcing IT functions. This was organized by the Center for International Trade Expositions and Mission (CITEM) and the Board of Investments (BOI) alongside the Philippine Trade and Investment Center in Rotterdam and London, and is part of the ICT-Europe Trade and Investment Promotion Program under the Philippine ICT Business Development Team.

Department of Trade and Industry’s OIC Senior Undersecretary Thomas G. Aquino happily announced, "The response from the business community in Europe was encouraging. We have to keep them in our radar screen if we are to remain competitive in the business process outsourcing (BPO) space."

The delegation represented the local enterprises operating in different IT outsourcing areas like:

  • contact centers
  • contact center solutions and technology
  • financial services and accounting
  • publishing and transcription
  • architectural and engineering requirements outsourcing
  • project management of outsourcing needs

Forrester Research has projected that in the next five years, the UK would account for three-quarters of all European outsourcing. This would be alongside the growth in offshore services spending. For Western Europe alone, this would be from 2004’s EUR 1.1 billion to EUR 3.6 billion in 2009, of which the UK makes up 76%.

Currently, Dutch companies doing outsourcing business with the Philippines are:

  • Getronics
  • ING Group
  • KLM Royal Dutch Airlines
  • ABN AMRO

British companies with outsourcing projects in the Philippines are

  • Standard Chartered Bank
  • Sykes
  • Ambergris Solutions

Companies that met with the Philippine delegation under the Trade Assistant Secretary and CITEM executive director Felicitas Agoncillo-Reyes:

  • Universal Marine BV
  • SOLLAND
  • Allied Aircraft Assistance Worldwide Association
  • KLM
  • Sommer Holding Ltd
  • Digital Port (Information Center) Rotterdam
  • Logica CMG
  • HSBC
  • Express Gifts London
  • National Outsourcing Association (London)
  • INTELLECT (UK IT Association
  • Mitial Research International
  • Arcware Solutions, Ltd
  • MRA Marketing Solutions
