CWJobs: 11% Increase In IT Worker Demand

The latest release of CWJobs/SSL quarterly IT skills index shows a marked rise in the demand for IT contractors in the public sector. For the period April 2004 – July 2005, permanent IT positions increased by 11% in Q2 2005, following a 13% in Q1 2005. Demand for contractual staff also rose by 4% those this is a smaller increase compared to Q1’s 13% increase.

The online IT recruitment specialist released the skills index that also showed employer preference for skills in SQL, ORACLE, and UNIX for the public sector permanent posts with PERL, SAP, STRUCTMETHODS, and MFC on the other end of the popularity spectrum. Contractor positions in the public sector in the meantime lean towards the OFFICE, ORACLE, PRINCE, and ACCESS while WINDOWS, LOADRUNNER, CITRIX, and JSCRIPT have not gained that much approval.

Richard Notts, CWJobs sales director says, "The public sector is experiencing a boom in permanent IT positions, however demand for contractors is slowing which could be the result of outsourcing. We predict that Q3 will see further rises in permanent positions, and although any growth for contractor positions may be smaller than previously experienced, there will still be a healthy demand."
